Zombie Apocalypse

You know what’s getting tiring? Twin stick shooters. You wanna know what else is getting tiring? Zombie games. So why the hell are we getting TWO twin stick zombie shooters on the psn.

The first of which is Zombie Apocalypse published by Konami. To be fair it isn’t a bad game, and it seems like it could be good fun with 4 player co-op, it’s just that there are so many better twin stick shooters out there, and with the creators of Super Stardust HD (one of the best twin stick shooters) making their own twin stick zombie shooter game, it’s hard to care about.

The demo contains 3 “days” (of 50), but the 3rd day takes place in the location as Day 1, so even though there are 50 stages there are only 7 total levels. The levels contain various environmental hazards which seem really deadly, but it’s tough to lure the zombies into them, and not really worth the effort.

The levels themselves are small arena like settings, so it’s not a free-roaming type of game. It’s basically you and your team mates trying to kill as many zombies as possible. To that end you have various weapons. The demo included your default machine gun, a grenade launcher, minigun and flamethrower. You also have a chainsaw which you can use to slice through enemies. You can also use the chainsaw to perform an execution attack which kills any enemy in a single hit (handy for the big zombies), and increases your multiplier by 3, but it leaves you venerable to attacks while performing it.

You can pickup and throw exploding bait which attracts Zombies as well, which can help when a ton are overwhelming you.

Finally there are several different types of zombies, your standard ones, big heavy ones that have way more health, ones with guns that will shoot at you, and several others.

Overall it’s a decent game, but I imagine the single player will get old fast. I recommend waiting to see what Dead Nation will be like before deciding on when to purchase this.
