Peggle

In celebration of the DVD release of Tokyo Zombie (after over 2 years since it originally came out in Japan) I was going to make it a Zombie Themed weekend. Left 4 Dead, House of the Dead: Overkill, and maybe even Dead Rising: Chop til you Drop… but when I turned on my much neglected 360 I noticed so many recent (and intriguing) demos, I decided to put Zombie-fest on hold, and give these 360 games some love.

So without further ado… Peggle

If you haven’t heard, Peggle is the hottest casual game since Tetris. Well, that might be taking it a bit too far, but it’s one of the few games I’ve ever played that’s as fun as Tetris and as addictive as World of Warcraft. Ok… again with the exaggerations, I’m just finding it pretty hard to put into words, how fun and addictive this little puzzle game is. Even the above video can’t do it justice. It’s simple to see how it’s played and understand what it is. But that feeling of not being able to put it down can only be experienced by playing it. Skeptical… I don’t blame you, but ask anyone who’s played it, and they’ll tell you the same.

Peggle is a cross between Bust a Move (aka Puzzle Bobble), and Plinko (from The Price is Right fame). You have a certain number of balls to fire from the top of the screen. Select your firing angle and pull the trigger, gravity takes care of the rest.

There are tons of pegs set up for each level that your ball will be hitting on the way down. The majority of the pegs are blue, these pegs can be helpful, or a pain, as you try to make your shot, each one gives a small point increase. The purple pegs provide a huge point boost. There are also green pegs which you give power-ups. There are several, but the most common shows how your ball will bounce once it’s hit its first obstacle.

Finally Orange, to pass a level you must hit all of the orange pegs in the level before you run out of balls to shoot.

There is a little bucket moving back and fourth at the bottom of the stage and if your current shot ends up in that bucket, it’ll be saved. You won’t lose a ball for that shot, and this can be key in completing a level.

There’s not that much to really say about Peggle outside of that. Download the demo and give it a try!
