Final Fantasy 4: The After Years: Rydia's Tale
Rydia’s Tale is the first (of nine) downloadable scenario for Final Fantasy 4: The After Years.
It starts off with some intro scenes that show what some of the FF4 characters have been up to in between the two games. The main plot takes place around the same time as the main game. It features Rydia returning to the Feymarch where she spent a good deal of time in the original game. Only to find that it has been attacked, and all its citizens petrified. Also she loses the ability to summon which was a major power of hers in the previous game.
The game also stars Luca, a minor character from the old game who’s become a full fledged party member. Luca’s goal is to become a master engineer like Cid, and because of that Rydia is able to use an airship very early on in the game. The airship adds a feeling of freedom that wasn’t available in the main story, even though there are limited places she can visit with it.
The side story is about 3 hours long, and ends quite suddenly. There’s a fetch quest to find items that can be used to forge stronger weapons, so that may be something worth trying to do. Especially since you are prompted to save the scenario once you have completed it. That makes me think that you’ll be loading this data into a future download scenario, which is always a good idea!
For 3$ this is a good expansion, and if you already bought the main game for $8 why not pick this up too!
