Virtua Quest

Virtua Quest is a strange mix of game genres. It feels like Virtua Fighter, meets Phantasy Star Universe, meets Megaman Battle Network NT. All together, that makes for a pretty interesting game.
The game starts with the main character learning how to connect to the “Nexus” network and hunt for treasure. His father who can’t make it home for your birthday so instead sends you a present, which is a new custom, made hunters glove. The glove is the accessory that contains all kinds of useful software for when you are in the Nexus.
The first mission of the game is to get you loA hunter license. The mission consists of test, which are basically a tutorial. You’ll learn all the basics of the game including jumping, attacking, grabbing ledges, wall running, and using your whip tool. In truth this game feels much more like a platformer than an RPG.
You can customize your character by using upgrade tools to increase your stats or add additional traits to your character. You can also changing what kinds of attacks he does; also you can collect Virtua Souls, which are basically programs where the characters from Virtua Fighter teach you new techniques.
Finally, like in Phantasy Star Online, you can have a Bit (pet), that follows you around and helps out. You feed it to increase its stats, and it can change into up to 13 configurations.
All in all, the combat works well and the controls are smooth. The whip can be used to pull in enemies or attach to points that will allow you to progress in game. The story here is lame, and was overdone even when this game came out, but the game itself is pretty fun. The platforming works very well, the only problem is the camera. It doesn’t feel like the camera moves at all, and since the right analog stick is used to control the whip you can only center the camera with a button. It just feels awkward, you have to stop and center the camera before every jump in the platforming sections.
If you love 3d action RPGs, then I recommend tracking down and trying out this game. It’s simple, but fun.
