Thexder Neo

Thexder and its sequel FireHawk: Thexder were really innovative PC action games from GameArts back in the late 80’s.

The game had players controlling a ship through large enemy infested mazes. The goal was to fun, jump, fly and shoot your way to the end of each level and keep the hordes of enemy creatures off you.

What made the game really unique was that Thexder had two modes. Much like the classic Robotech mechs, Thexder could change from a robot to a jet, and back on the fly. The robot mode could jump and had a tracking laser that would lock onto and easily took down waves of enemies and barriers. The jet mode could only shoot straight ahead, but could fly into and through places that the robot mode could not get to. The games were known for their difficulty.

Thexder Neo is an updated version of Thexder for the PSP. It’s a download only title on the PSN for $9.99.

The new 3d presentation looks great, and the 2d gameplay is smoother than ever. The game itself is still a blast to play. The gameplay hasn’t varied much from what was said above about the old series, and while the game will be difficult for new players to get used it, you’ll adjust quickly. The game’s difficulty isn’t as crazy as it was before so now everyone can enjoy it.

Check out the video and if a free roaming shooter with robots and plane sound like your thing download the game.
