Tekken 6

Tekken 6 is the latest entry in the hugely successful 3d fighting series. The series has 7 previous entries on the PS1 and PS2, and Tekken 6 is the both the first entry this generation and also the first multi-platform released major Tekken title.
The game menu lists the Scenario Campaign, and online followed by a group of offline modes.
Tekken 6′s scenario campaign mode is an evolution of the Tekken Force mode from previous games. It’s more of a beat ‘em up action mode than a fighter. This new mode starts off with a stylish animated comic intro, which goes through the basic story of the previous 5 games. After than you’re bombarded with cutscenes that set up the plot for this mode. The game begins with much more story than combat so be prepared for that. The story continues the conflict between Heihachi and Kazuya’s corporations. It revolves around a character called Lars who’s lost his memory and is under attack by the corporations. Lars is joined early on by Alisa who decides to help him along.
The mode is designed around Lars and Alisa, but you can choose another player to play as. You start the campaign only able to use Lars, but as you progress through you’ll be able to unlock other characters. You get to choose in which order they unlock so you can choose your favourites first.
The mode features tons of items and several weapons to pick up and use. There are melee weapons and guns, and healing items, as well as collectible items for the character customization mode. Items are either dropped by enemies or found in breakable containers.
The mode is pretty much what you’d expect; it’s a free roaming 3d battle against groups of enemies that plays very different from the arcade mode. The controls are pretty frustrating, moving around in the 3d environment is a pain without the analog stick, but the fighting itself doesn’t work well if you’re not using the d-pad, so you’ll find yourself switching back and forth constantly.
While you always have a partner, it’s computer AI controller partner. There’s no local co-op, but Namco-Bandai has promised a patch to add online co-op. The AI for your partner is decent and is designed to gain levels and get better as you play more of the mode.
Also within the campaign scenario mode is where the Arena mode is. It’s awkwardly placed, but the Arena is in fact the story mode for Tekken 6. Going to the Arena you can choose from the characters you’ve unlocked and you with will start the Iron Fist Tournament. A series of 4 battles that contains a character specific intro and ending videos.
The online mode lets you battle other players. There’s a handy lobby system, and this is the most important game mode for competitive players, but the matches seem to be hit and miss. I’ve had some matches that are absolutely terrible with lag, and others that work fine. It’s really inconsistent.
You can also upload your characters ghost data here and download ghost data from other players to play against.
The offline section also features a ton of extra modes including ghost battles, time attack, survival, team tournament, and practice.
The arcade mode for Tekken 6 has you play through 8 stages with any of the 40 characters in the game. There’s also a bonus round against a new huge robot. In true Tekken fashion, any semblance of realism the game still retained goes out the window on the boss fight. Azazel is a shiny dragon that takes up half the screen, and has enough moves to force you to alter your play style in order to beat him.
Tekken 6 features 12 stages and they both much more detailed and also more interactive than ever before. There are some great looking stages, one where you’re fighting in a fountain that has lights and water shooting up from it, and also some pretty funny stages, like one where there are tons of sheep all around that get in the way of the fight.
The game also features a rank advancement system. You gain points for completing fights, and when you get enough you’ll get promoted in rank. You can only get promoted so far in offline modes though, you’ll have to take it online to continue to advance.
A new feature of Tekken 6 is the rage mode, which activates when you have lost most of your health. It’s an aura that covers your character and may give you the extra edge you need for a comeback.
The ghost battle mode lets you run through a series of fights against a series of “ghosts”, which are PC controlled characters based on a player’s stats. After each round you’ll get to choose out of 4 new ghosts, which you’d want to fight next. You can trade ghosts with your friends as well.
Time attack is basically a time trail to get through the game as fast as possible, survival puts you against a never-ending chain of enemies to see how many you can defeat before you run out of health. The team battle mode lets you pick up to 8 characters and battle against another team of 8 characters in a series of one on one fights.
The practice mode is an extensive tool for players who want to master their combos or learn to defend against other attacks. You can set up a variety of scenarios and tell the computer which combos to perform on you. While it’s a really deep mode, it’s all user directed. It’s not like the training modes of other fighting games that teach you how to play, instead it gives you the tools to learn what you want, but you have to set up each exercise yourself.
The character customization mode is an expanded experience from its introduction in Tekken 5. Using money you earn from all the other modes you can buy and sell different pieces of equipment and clothing. You can also find items through the scenario mode. Equipping the items you buy and find will lead to stat bonuses on your characters so it’s worth checking out. Especially to differentiate yourself online.
One thing that needs to be addressed is the load times. Each match takes FOREVER to load, but you can install game data of 3.6gb and that greatly reduces the load times.
All in all, Tekken 6 is a great 3d fighter for both advanced fighter players and newcomers alike. There are more than enough modes to make the game worthwhile, and the scenario campaign is a new bonus that changes up the gameplay. The online versus and soon to be patched co-op mode for the campaign means there’s a lot of multiplayer action to be had if you don’t have anyone locally you can play against.
Like this game? Order it online

the story mode of this game reminds me of The Bouncer on PS2
i asked a question like this before..
does your partner always have to be alisa?
Lars is pretty strong.
Bastard child.
i dont think so because ive seen Nina & Anna playing SC together
im worried if there is a case that the cpu always uses alisa and only in online mode will there be an option of the other player using other chars
i dont know mate, the campaign mode is about Lar’ss & Alisa’s story so it makes sense that should you opt to have a different character replace Lars, Alisa should stay for plot purposes
Maybe after you beat the scenario campaign, you get the option of using whatever characters you want on replaying stages.
Guyzz…In trailers we’ve seen couples like NINA&ANNA..ASUKA&LING,,KING&MARDUK…LEO&KAZUYA…
So..You can choose your partner for sure..I don’t know if you have to finish the story with her first!!
Does it have jaggies? because of the compression i can’t know, 360 version has jaggies everywhere, i want to know if PS3 version doesn’t.
its so annoying to watch you fight. do some combos
You don’t make sense, the 360 has better graphics
it looks like you dont know wtf are you talking about, this game looks equal on both consoles with bloor turned on, if you turn it off, x360 version gets better resolution, but PS3 gets antialising, so… 360 is a cutreport to me, because those jaggies hurts so much
no. i am sure about it
can u be any one u want cuz all da vids i sin av da same people
is there anyway to turn off those stupid ass fireballs when you score a hit??
scenario campaign is waaaaaaaay too fucking long
yeah I know why don’t they just add blood?
looks like u dont know wtf you are talking about, I own both consoles and tekken 6 for each of them, Ive compared them side by side.
kool random fight! Ps3 will always be the better system than 360!
no way
blu-ray
It’s good to see Tekken on XBox, because there will be more fan and a biggest community around the game.
So what’s the problem here ?
And who cares about if the graphics are better in PS3 or XBOX 360 ?
I will own the ps3 version, as a Tekken fan since the first one (and because i don’t have an Xbox 360 hahah), but i’ll not hurt anyone who’ll own the Xbox version…
then you are blind
Meh they slowed Lei down that sucks. He was quick as hell
and awesome
you have to unlock characters by beating them
is it only on ps3
no its on both
how can you with 2 players in scenario campaign on the ps3
wait for the online patch.
I actually like this scenario campaign.
It feels like pacman.
So cheaply made but still fun and entertaining.
Seriously, i dont get why people hate this bonus mode sooo much.
okay but when come the online patch?
This game is lame as hell.
Don’t waste your $59.99.
It’s NOT worth it.
You PAID the full $59.99? LMAO
this mode is actually really fun once you get into it, why do people hate it.
how do you make your life bar longer?
Good on Namco for preserving the beat-em-up genre. Sure, here a bit more polish would have been wiser, and it shouldn’t be billed as the Main Attraction, but at the least it’s something different.
this game rock is perfect for players that like fighthing like me to me the best characters in this game are law,jin kazama, kazuya, alexander, fang, steven fox, devil jin, raven
