Savage Moon

Just like Geometry wars revitalized the twin stick shooters genre, Pixel Junk Monsters kicked off the tower defense craze again, and that led to the release of several tower defense games including Savage Moon.

Tower defense games are a simple (but really fun) concept. You have a base to protect, and waves of monsters slowly approach it. You build weapons between the two of you that automatically attack approaching monsters, and hope none reach your base.

Savage Moon was released on PSN a couple months ago, but a demo hasn’t been released until just last week. In short Savage Moon is for players who wished they have more options than Pixel Junk Monsters allowed. Everything runs at a faster pace. If you have the cash and research complete, upgrade towers is instantaneous. You can also force the next wave of enemies to come faster for a bonus. There are alot of towers to build, and you can build walls over certain terrain to force enemies to take a longer route.

Savage Moon really focuses on cash management, there’s alot you can spend your cash on, and in the end that’s what going to determine if you win or lose.

If you haven’t played a tower defense game Savage Moon is a good place to start if you’re really into strategy or puzzle games. It’s a very different feel from Pixel Junk Monsters, but if you’ve already played that and didn’t dig it, I don’t think this game is for you.
