Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao

XBLA’s summer of Arcade is over. With the last title Shadow Complex, easily being the best, I would have expected some kind of shovelware XBLA game to come out this week. Well the good news is that the game that was released is actually pretty good. The bad news is that it’s also 1200 MS points, and when you put that up against Shadow Complex which was the same price, it seems like a pretty bad deal.
The game, Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao, is essentially a 2D beat-em-up, where you play as Han Tao. The demo featured a level containing 13 waves of enemies. The game plays on a 2d plane, so it plays more like a platformer than a typical 2d beat-em-up. The enemies were varied and you had several moves at your disposal and this made for a fun game.
The big draw to this game is that it supports 3d. Both the old red/blue glasses and the new method stereoscopic TV’s use. At least if you have a TV that supports 3d, you won’t mind paying $15 for this game because with a TV like that you can definitely afford it. What I’m getting at is that very few people own those TV’s because they are VERY expensive. So chances are you’re sticking with the typical cheap glasses 3d, which works ok.
The full game will have 2 player online and local co-op and a survival mode, so if you have someone to play with, at least there’s some extra appeal to the game than just the single player story mode.
All in all, Invincible Tiger was a good and fun game. There’s nothing special aside from the 3d so it may not be worth your time, and there are a lot of other XBLA games that are more worthy of your MS points. Try the demo and see what you think.
