Dragon Ball: Raging Blast

When I saw the Dragon Ball: Raging Blast demo up, I was pretty excited to check it out. The Dragon Ball franchise is anime/cartoon/TV show with the most games based on it. The majority of those were only released in Japan, as Dragon Ball didn’t really become popular here until the PS2 generation.

Once it took off though, the floodgates open. On the PS2 alone we got 10 games. 6 of them were from the Budokai series. The Budokai series was a series of 3d fighting games that started off great but just got bigger and more complex as the series went on. By the 3rd game the series was tired and no longer fun.

Then we got Dragon Ball Burst Limit for the 360 and PS3. It was a new Dragon Ball fighting game from the ground up. The combat was much closer to a 2d fighter and it was an intense, and fun experience. The idea of a sequel to that with an extended cast and longer story mode was what got me excited for this game.

However, Raging Blast just turned out to be another Budokai game. The environments and character graphics are much nicer all around, but overall the combat feels exactly like the Budokai games.

The demo itself was insanely limited. The only mode you could select is versus and the demo features 3 playable characters (Goku, Radditz, and Piccolo). You can’t even get to the options.

All I can say about this demo is that unless you are a HUGE Budokai fan avoids it. If you want a good Dragon Ball experience, then just grab Burst Limit, you can find it for dirt-cheap now. You can also wait to see how the upcoming Wii beat ‘em up “Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo” turns out.

Lol! Burst Limit sucked! Story mode was alright but it only went through the Cell Saga. The combat was also fun at first until I realized the only thing you had to do to win was SPAM special attacks, which was really stupid because it didn’t cost any chi. Anyone who is a fan of Dragonball Z should consider picking Raging Blast.

P.S. Don’t waste your time on Burst Limit.
