Less than a year ago Nintendo launched it’s Club Nintendo service in North America. The service has been available in Japan and Europe for quite a while now, but finally we can access it.
The premise is simple, you use registration cards on Nintendo published Wii and DS games to register your purchases on the site. Certain download titles are registered automatically as you can link up your Wii and DSi accounts to the site.
When you register a game you get Nintendo coins, also there are certain features to earn you more coins. You can take a survey for each purchase to get additional coins or if you plan to buy specific upcoming game (Wii Sport Resort is the option now) you’ll get bonus points for telling Nintendo you are going to buy it, then registering it within a certain timeframe.
Eventually your points tally up and you are able to redeem points for prizes. You can get a Nintendo Game and Watch collection game for DS, or some Nintendo themed playing cards/DS cases and styluses, etc now.
Getting so many points allows you to become a gold or platinum member for that year. At the end of the year Nintendo rewards it’s gold and platinum members with a free gift.
With the Nintendo year ending in July, Nintendo has now announced the gifts.
Gold members get a 2010 Nintendo themed colander.
Platinum members get the choice of either a replica Mario hat, or a special WiiWare download Punch Out game.
Mario Hat

lol, I don’t know what I’d do with the hat. Probably just take some pictures of my cat in it, then sell it on ebay. I’d rather have the game.
