About

About Gameplayreviews

The initial concept behind gameplayreviews.com was pretty simple. It was to create a site that showcased upcoming, current, and old games with unique video footage. The idea was to provide enough information so that any visitor could tell if a game is right for them.

All videos on the site are captured by us while we are playing games. Some of the review choices might seem odd, but that’s just because we wanted to play that game and figure why not capture the footage while we’re at it. We intend to get a whole lot of footage up so that you can just browse through the site and see gameplay of any game you’re interested in. Also I hate spoilers, as most people do. So unless clearly stated, most gameplay footage we show will be from earlier parts of the game (within the first hour).

We are not journalists or game reviewers. In fact, the title of gameplayreviews is pretty misleading. (But gameplayfirstimpressionsbyaveragegamers.com, just didn’t have the same ring to it)Our intention is not to provide you with a list of detailed pros and cons for games. We don’t assign numerical scores along with our write-ups, and we don’t focus on graphics or sound unless they really affect the gameplay.

There are tons of other game review sites out there if that’s what you’re looking for. But, if you are looking for the opinions of two average gamers, then this is the place for you! The goal of this site is to point out what games you would enjoy. We focus on the fun aspects of gaming. No game is perfect, and we’re not going to slam it for that. But we are going to provide clear write-ups of what we enjoyed or hated about each game, and why you may want to check it out or avoid it.

Who the hell are we?

Currently the gameplayreviews.com team has 2 members. mikestrife and jiosis.

  • Mike (mikestrife): I have been a gamer since I was old enough to hold a controller. My first mainstream console was the NES, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I love pretty much all types of games, though I typically don’t play sports or racing games alone. My all time favorite genres are Survival Horror and RPGs.I am not a big PC gamer. In fact I hate it. I was huge into PC games when I was younger, but that was back when it was the only platform you could get amazing adventure games on (like the original Sierra or Lucasarts games).Compatibility issues aside, the control schemes just don’t work for my favorite genres. I agree no console can match the PC when it comes for FPS or RTS games, but I’ll take a big screen TV and a controller over a monitor and keyboard any day. (Although the advent of gog.com is really making me come back around to PC games)I’m a pretty hardcore collector too. At its peak my collection had over 1500 games for over 15 systems. Realizing I would never live long enough to play them all to completion I recently weeded the collection down to about half. I’m a day one buyer as well. If a game interests me, I’m there for it day one. Of course I get burned a lot because of that, but now that I’m writing for gameplayreviews hopefully you won’t be!Finally I am a major franchise whore. It’s sad to say, but the collector in my wins out over common sense. If a terrible game comes out for a franchise I love I will most likely get it for the collection (I currently have every Final Fantasy game released in North America and a bunch of the Japan releases).

  • Soroush (jiosis): If I’m not asleep, I’m either coding, surfing, watching movies or playing video games. I’m not quite the hardcore gamer Mikestrife is, but I’ve been playing games for quite a while. My gamer life started by an Atari 2600 and now I play mostly PS3 and Wii games.I buy games here and there, but I need to be confident about a game to buy it at launch otherwise I’ll wait for its price to drop or find it used!I mostly love shooters, adventures and good casual games. More than anything I put value in uniqueness of games and I hate playing yet-another-blahblah games. You’ll notice that my taste of video games is different than Mikestrife.
  • ???? (future editor): While we’re still trying to get the site in order we aren’t quite seeking a new editor yet, but we do plan to have a third (and possibly fourth) in the future. Feel free to contact us if you’re interested.

Why would you listen to us?

Why should you listen to anyone? Review scores are across the board. Some games one site will give a 6 and another site will give it a 9? Which do you trust? Whether or not you like a game will be completely dependant on your personality and what other games you enjoy playing. That’s why we plan to offer several (sometimes conflicting) views on the same game. We are very different in our approach to gaming, and if you relate to one of us, chances are you’ll have the same likes and dislikes as well.

So check out the site, post some comments if you’ve got something to add, or contact us if we’re missing out on something! Hopefully you’ll find out about some great games here that you might have missed out on otherwise.

Have fun!
